Life throws us many curve balls but sometimes we are lucky enough to catch them… Just recently I was going through some stuff pertaining to my accident when I came across this letter. I wrote it on August 13th 2013, just two months after surgery. This is the first time that I communicated with my supporters, as I had a heavy heart to reach out to everyone and let them know how I was doing but most importantly, I wanted them to know how much I appreciated their prayers. God continues to work in my life… and as I said almost two years ago, “This journey for me is not over yet but just beginning.”

Wow, what a crazy ride I’ve been on these past few months. Never did I know that I would be writing a thank you note for prayers in the recovery of my health, my back especially after my trip to Indonesia. I wanted to send this personal message to you, as it has been weighing on my mind and I want everyone to know how I am doing.
First of all… the power of prayer is amazing; thank you! It got me through some of the hardest moments in my life, as it continues to do so.
Some of you may be thinking that if you hadn’t contributed to my cause to go to Indonesia, then maybe this wouldn’t have happened to me. Some of you might be thinking that you should have told me not to go. Some of you might think that you could have done something to change the outcome, just somehow. Well… that’s why I am writing this. I still believe with all of my heart that God wanted me to go to Indonesia, I have no doubt. And, as much as it’s hard for some of you to understand this… God had his hands on me from the moment I jumped into that ocean. Some people might think that it’s crazy to believe God would have his hand at breaking my back but I truly believe that this was all part of his plan for me. I have leaned on him more than ever before and have felt his grace in every moment of this journey. I thank God for what he has done in my life. Yeah, I’ve been through a lot these past months but it’s changed my life in such an amazing way, at which I know that he has much more planned for me. I am in the midst of writing a book and looking at getting it published. I want to share my story for those people that think that life isn’t fair… I’ve learned through this that life is what you make it but most of all what you allow God to make of it.
As for my health, I was blessed with the best spinal team in Southern California and should recover. I am wearing a turtle shell hard cast brace around my torso for three more weeks (3 months in total). I have been off of the pain killers for one week now and starting to do some light exercising with the brace. Although three months is a long time, it’s much better than being confined to a wheel chair. As some of you may know, my original prognoses per CT scans and MRI’s, showed that I should have been paralyzed… I believe God than again protected me and used me as an example of faith, not only in Indonesia but here in the U.S.
I thank you with all my heart for your continued prayers and support. This journey for me is not over yet but just beginning.
When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you ~ Isaiah 43:2
